Our Instructors

Jane Carlsen

Jane was the owner of former First Street Yoga. She has been practicing yoga since 1992 and teaching since 1995. She received her training within the Iyengar tradition under the guidance of her long0time primary teacher, Julie Lawrence, and continues to study with senior Iyengar teachers. Jane's teaching is influenced by the on-going discoveries of her home practice She believes that the deepest yoga takes place in the quiet meditation of personal practice. Her classes are designed to give students the tools they need to maintain a committed and compelling home practice.

Jane is interested in yoga as an active philosophy. She combines the practical engagement of asana practice with the study of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras to create an experience that is both grounding and provocative. In her classes, she works to teach precision of movement and thought coupled with an attitude of adventure, joy and reverence. Jane was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and received a BA in English from Vassar College. She is particularly interested in how to use yoga to address specific problems and has taught yoga for medical research conducted by Kaiser Permanente and Oregon Health Sciences University.

Amy Jaczko

Amy Jackzo is the owner of Newberg Community Yoga. She is a long time resident of the area and was raised in Yamhill and attended Linfield College. Amy began to cultivate a love for eastern culture while living in Japan and decided to try yoga upon returning to the U.S. In 2008, she began classes with Jane Carlsen at First Street Yoga as a way to improve her flexbility, relieve lower back pain and help balance life as a stay at home Mom. As her practice and dedication to Yoga grew, she found the beneftis overwhelmingly positive in many other aspects of her life.


She loves running Newberg Community Yoga and also enjoys the process of learning Yoga. She continues to study and apprentice with Jane Carlsen and also studies with Robert Flory of NCY. She did her yoga training with senior Iyengar teacher Julie Lawrence of Jewel Yoga in Portland. She aslo enjoys attending workshops to further her studies and particularly enjoys senior Iyengar teachers Kari Owerko, John Schumaker and Patricia Walden. She teaches a classical alignment style class guiding her students to thoughtfully observe their bodies and breath as they move through a variety of poses. All levels are welcome to attend her classes. Amy lives in Dundee with her husband, Michael, and three children.

Robert Flory

Robert began practicing yoga in 1992. He is a certified Iyengar Yoga instructor at the Introductory 2 level, and continues to attend yoga workshops and intensives led by senior teachers several times each year. 

After working as a bicycle mechanic for 15 years, he went back to school to complete his degree. He now works as an electrical engineer. Robert has taken time to travel to Mexico, Guatemala, Nepal and Thailand for volunteer projects. He is fluent in Spanish and is a a certified scuba diver.

Robert has found a daily yoga practice to inform every aspect of his life, bringing clarity, precision, and balance to daily activities and providing stability and perspective during times of turmoil.
